Group C’s Japan suffered their first defeat of the tournament as they were unlucky to see a penalty kick hit the post as they fell to Colombia.
In the 30th minute of the first half, Japan’s Yamane’s shot deflected off the Colombian defense, leading to a lucky goal.
The second half was a different story.
They conceded an equalizer to Asprilla and then an equalizer to Angel.
Even a penalty from trusted captain Matsuki hit the post and Japan lost 2-1.
With two straight wins, Colombia booked their spot in the round of 16.
In Group D, Brazil poured six goals past the Dominican Republic for their first win.
Senegal’s Kamara scored a spectacular individual effort, only to be denied by the Israeli goalkeeper.
