“I need more spin and slide”… Medvedev’s attitude on the clay court

Self-proclaimed ‘hard court specialist’ Danil Medvedev (27, Russia). “More spin and more sliding,” he said, increasing his acclimatization on the clay court메이저사이트.

It is ahead of the 2023 Rome Open (Internazionali BNL d’Italia), which will open on the 10th (local time) at Foro Italico (clay court) in Rome, Italy. The Rome Open is the third ATP Masters 1000 series special event held in the clay court season.

Medvedev, who is participating in the 4th Rome Open, said in a press conference before the tournament, “I play with a little more spin. Sliding in particular seems to have always been a problem for me. After the Madrid Open, after I lost, I practiced there for a few days. I tried to focus on sliding and movement. It feels like it has improved over the course of a few days.”

He experienced the pain of being eliminated in the round of 16 in the men’s singles at the 2023 Mutua Madrid Open (ATP Masters 1000) held on clay courts from the 26th to the 7th of last month.

World No. 3 Medvedev has a record of 33 wins and 4 losses this year. His main specialty is his flat ground stroke and wide court curve. However, with a height of 1m98, he is not performing well on the clay court (red soil), showing weakness in movement.

Aiming for his first victory in this tournament, he showed confidence, saying, “I feel physically good.” His first opponent, the 3rd seed, is the winner of the first round match between 50th ranked Hugo Humbert (24, France) and 43rd ranked Emil Rusuvouori (24, Finland).

Medvedev said: “I am looking forward to this tournament because I have never won a single game here. So that (first win) is the first goal.”
