‘Dinosaur Ace’ Gu Chang-mo, up to 7 years and 13.2 billion jackpot

Pro baseball NC Dinos announced on the 17th that it had signed a long-term contract for up to seven years with the team’s main left-handed starting pitcher, Chang-mo Koo. As a result, Gu Chang-mo will be active in NC until at least 2028 and up to 2029.

Gu Chang-mo has filled 5 of the 8 seasons required to obtain FA qualification until this year. There is still a long way to go before becoming a free agent, but NC signed a long-term contract early to avoid losing the ace to another team.

The terms of Koo Chang-mo’s contract are divided into two depending on when he obtained his FA qualification. If Koo Chang-mo fills the number of registration days (145 days) in 2023 and 2024, respectively, and adds 35 international competition reward points, he will qualify as an FA after the 2024 season. If FA qualification is obtained after the 2024 season, NC will pay a total of 12.5 billion won, including an annual salary of 9 billion won and an incentive of 3.5 billion won, for 6 years from 2023. If Gu Chang-mo does not qualify for FA after the end of the 2024 season, NC will give an annual salary of 8.8 billion won for the contract period of ‘6 + 1 years’ from 2023, as well as up to 13.2 billion won, including incentives and execution of the 7th year contract. Regardless of the contract period, Koo Chang-mo broke the record for the highest non-FA contract signed by Koo Ja-wook with the Samsung Lions last year (5 years total of 12 billion won).

The timing of Koo Chang-mo’s FA acquisition depends on his performance in the international competition next year. Gu Chang-mo is likely to participate in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and Hangzhou Asian Games next year. For just competing in the WBC, he will receive 10 reward points and an additional 50 points depending on his performance. Even in the Asian Games, he can score up to 25 points. 1 point is 1 free agent registration day, and Gu Chang-mo adds 35 points in both competitions and becomes a free agent after 2024. 토토사이트

In the 2015 rookie draft, Gu Chang-mo, who joined NC with the 3rd pick in the 2nd round, recorded a career record of 46 wins, 34 losses, 5 holds, and an average ERA of 3.74. He was noticed early on as a pitcher who would grow into a national left-handed ace following Kim Gwang-hyun (SSG) and Yang Hyeon-jong (KIA).

Chang-mo Koo said, “I am very happy that I am closer to my dream of becoming an NC franchise star with this contract. I will prove that the club’s choice was not wrong.”
