1st place Suseong or recapture?

Djokovic has a chance to recapture the top spot. Of course, even if Alkaras goes all the way to the finals in this tournament, he will keep first place with 9815 ranking points. This is because even if Djokovic wins, it will be 9795.

Looking at the world rankings announced on the 14th, the current ranking points are 9395 for Alkaras and 8795 for Djokovic.

Alkaras rose to world No. 1 for the first time after winning the US Open men’s singles last year, and held that position for 33 weeks.

Djokovic holds the all-time record in this category, having been world No. 1 for 389 weeks, but is currently behind Alkaras. The most recent time he reached No. 1 was last June.

Alkaras will clash with Jordan Thompson (29, Australia), ranked 55th, in the round of 32 (2nd round) of the Western & Southern Open. Djokovic, the second seed, faces 23rd place Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (24, Spain) in the second round.

Both Alkaras and Djokovic have to reach the final, the first match between the two since the Wimbledon men’s singles final on July 16th.
